A new surgical technique to remove Hallux Valgus \u00a0bunions and restore pretty feet<\/strong><\/p>\n

As well as causing pain and discomfort, Hallux Valgus ( commonly known as bunions ), can be very unsightly and prevent sufferers from wearing open sandals due to feeling self-conscious or from wearing elegant Pumps due to the pain under the forefoot or the rubbing on the big toe joint. Horror stories about operations followed by long months of healing, including non-weight-bearing periods, joint loss, cartilage wear and terrible pain also put patients off seeking treatment, but this is no longer the case.<\/p>\n

IFormer internationally renown Orthopaedic Surgeon and Medical Director of the European Foot Institute Mr Dieter F.O. Nollau MD introduced a keyhole technique 2007 in the UK. In 2013 Mr Dirk Nowak MD who also specialises in foot and ankle surgery took over the European Foot Institute and modified the techniques to obtain an even better functional and aesthetically result. Mr Nowak MD uses an exciting modified method, which treats patients very carefully and restores the aesthetic appearance of the foot by handling even a bilateral operation through one virtually unnoticeable micro-incision.<\/p>\n<\/div>

The micro-invasive operation only requires one 0.5 cm incision and reconstructs the beauty of a normal foot by making a sculptural 3-D shift of the deviated metatarsal bone and big toe. At the same time, this \u201crebuilding\u201d improves the function dramatically. The operation is performed as an outpatient procedure under surgical conditions. It allows immediate full weight-bearing with the operated feet protected by wearing special support sandals. Assuming an optimal healing process, it is possible to slip back into one\u2019s desired shoes, even high heels, after just two months.<\/p>\n

Unlike other modern techniques, using 2 or 3 incisions and also using screws or cut off wires as stabilisers, which will remain in your feet permanently or would have to be surgically removed after 6 – 12 month, our technique with one small incision and no foreign object left in the foot\u00a0 (wire removed pain free after 4 weeks) is still the least invasive technique with excellent results and a very quick recovery.<\/p>\n<\/div>
